@ 02 acadamy, oxford, uk
1st july 2010
bit late in this review, but thought id keep the threads moving!
tickets sold out very quick for this gig so i had to pay silly money for 1 off eBay...... but soooooooooo worth it!
the 02 acadamy was a tiny venue, i couldnt believe my eyes. ozzy rarely plays real venues any more, mostly festivals..... where you have to fight to get within a mile of the stage, but at the 02 you could stand at the back of the venue and still see everything. there couldnt have been more than 1000 people there and it was packed..... it was a very INTIMATE and PERSONAL gig that i feel privilaged to attend.
there was no warm up band, just a DJ playing rock and metal..... but every now and then ozzy himself would stick his head out or talk over the speakers to wind us up and get us pumped.
i left it late but managed to bully my way to the front of the venue, i was 1 row of people from the stage when ozzy came out.... the place went mad! he opened with paranoid..... i tried to take pics, but the crowd was going nuts so gave up! lol
i had spent the whole day listening to the new album (scream) - dozens of times, assuming hed play mostly the new stuff off it, but he didnt, he played all the classic ozzy and sabbath songs, one after another...... he even played several from the ultimate sin album (which i never thought id hear live). it was perfection...... every song he played was amazing and would be up there on my 20 top ozzy songs ever!
being such a small venue he really connected with the crowd and i made contact with him several times..... but even though it was lacking in people the crowd were amazing..... iv been to 10'000 capacity gigs that werent that loud!..... and ozzy really fed off the energy in the room. he was energetic, seemed very happy and truly seemed to be enjoying as much as we were!
this gig was THE best gig i have ever been to (and i have been to 100's)
everything came together perfectly. the small venue, the intense crowd, ozzy at his best and playing such a great set of songs........ i wish i could re-live the gig over and over!!!!!
well done ozzy.
you truly are a god!
